Director of Advancement
John Healy joined Hospice of the Piedmont in 2013 as Director of Advancement. He previously served as the Vice President of Strategic Relations at the Global Oceanic Foundation, as Assistant Vice President and Director of Major Gifts at the Institute for Shipboard Education (also known as Semester at Sea), and in several positions within the Office of Development at his alma mater, Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. John has lived in Charlottesville since 2007 with his wife, Melissa, and their twin sons, Duncan and Thatcher.
Associate Director of Advancement
Dr. Ron Sykes joined Hospice of the Piedmont in 2015 after a successful 47-year career in independent education. Ron was a teacher and administrator in Memphis, Tennessee and Natchez, Mississippi before moving to Virginia in 1988. He served 11 years as Headmaster at the Covenant School, two years as Interim Head of School at Middleburg Academy, and two years as President of Sullins Academy in Bristol. He brings a clear understanding of successful fundraising and friendraising to this position. He has been married to Jane since 1969; they have two children and two wonderful grandchildren.
Jackie Gamache joined Hospice of the Piedmont as Development and Outreach Coordinator in 2007 to create, implement, and support various fundraising initiatives, as well as assist with marketing programs and events. Promoted in 2014 to Advancement Manager, her career has been predominantly in the senior care field. She graduated from Southern California University with a BA in Marketing and received her Certificate of Nonprofit Management from University of Virginia’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
Advancement Events Coordinator
Shannon joined the Hospice of the Piedmont Advancement team in 2014 when HOP and Hospice of the Rapidan completed their merger. As Advancement Coordinator of HOTR, she was responsible for all special events fundraising, outreach, and marketing. Shannon currently oversees event coordination in HOP’s northern region. Her extensive experience in event production and management, website management and marketing includes a previous role as Executive Officer for the Piedmont Virginia Building Industry Association.
Monica Laidlaw joined Hospice of the Piedmont in 2007. Her responsibilities include managing the database to ensure that HOP’s donor information is correct and up-to-date so HOP can communicate with friends. She also responds to requests from the community, prepares tribute reports for families of hospice patients, and processes donations and registration requests for members of our online community. Monica has more than 15 years of fundraising experience with nonprofit organizations.
Rachael Palm joined Hospice of the Piedmont in 2013. Rachael has a BA in English, with a minor in Spanish from Longwood University, and has more than 15 years of experience across the disciplines of marketing communications, public relations, and journalism. She coordinates the organization’s internal and external communication efforts, working closely with the other advancement team members to establish cohesive messaging and brand awareness, and to increase the public’s knowledge and understanding of HOP’s work in its 12-county service area.
Lori Woods joined Hospice of the Piedmont in July 2015. Her responsibilities include gift processing and donor communication. She handles event registration and supports staff with events and fundraising activities. A longtime resident of Charlottesville, Lori enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons.
