What is this medication used for?

  • It is used to treat anxiety, insomnia, seizures, nausea, and vomiting.
  • It may also be used to treat anxiety associated with shortness of breath.

How is this medication best taken?

Read and follow the dosing on the label closely or follow the directions given to you by your doctor. Do not use more than you were
told to use.

Tablet/Liquid /Injection:

  • Take scheduled doses as you have been told, even if you feel well.
  • To gain the most benefit, do not miss doses.
  • Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach.
  • Use a specially marked spoon or dropper to measure your liquid medicine

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


Storage Information:

Keep out of the reach of children, in a container that small children cannot open. Store at room temperature, away from excess
moisture (bathroom) and heat.


What should I watch for while taking lorazepam?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor and/or hospice nurse as soon as possible:

  • Change in balance
  • Very bad dizziness
  • Signs of low mood (depression)
  • Memory loss or problems
  • Movement difficulty
  • Excitability or aggressive behavior
  • Feeling very tired or weak
  • Muscle weakness

Common side effects to tell your doctor and/or hospice nurse about if they continue or are bothersome:

  • Feeling sleepy
  • Hard stools (constipation)
  • Feeling tired or weak
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
