Candace E. Blades

JD, RN

Candace Evans Blades is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Nursing and the University of Maryland School of Law, where she took advantage of the school’s extensive healthcare law offerings.  She practiced law for a number of years in a variety of settings, many healthcare-related, and then returned to a healthcare practice.  She has many years of critical care experience where she was privileged to care for patients at the end of life, and she feels strongly about supporting patients, their loved ones, and the care team through this sacred journey.  Prior to coming to UVA Health in November of 2022 as the Director for Advance Care Planning, Candace held a similar role at VCU Health.  Candace is a Respecting Choices© First and Advanced Steps certified facilitator and instructor.  When she is not enjoying all the wonderful things that the Charlottesville area has to offer, she can be found at her bayside cottage on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
