Beth Epstein

Beth has lived in Charlottesville for over 25 years and is a professor in the UVA School of Nursing and the School of Medicine Center for Health, Humanities, and Ethics.

Previously a neonatal intensive care nurse, Beth has done research in healthcare ethics for many years and teaches ethics as well. She has served as President of Congregation Beth Israel and has held several leadership positions in the School of Nursing. She is an active clinical ethics consultant for the UVA Health System and is also a senior consultant for the UVA Health System’s moral distress consult service, a subgroup of the clinical ethics consultation service. She currently co-chairs the UVA Health System ethics committee and is the PhD Program Lead in the School of Nursing.

She is married to Fred Epstein, also a UVA professor, and they have 2 grown sons whom they adore.
