We hear “thank you” in a lot of different ways.
Sometimes it’s a card sent to the office. Sometimes it’s a family remembering a nurse by name or sharing one small thing a team member did that they still think about. Sometimes it’s simply, “We couldn’t have done this without you.”
Those words stick with us. Because behind every thank you is a family who trusted Hospice of the Piedmont to answer the phone, come to their home, help them navigate difficult decisions, and care for someone they loved.
In honor of National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and as Thanksgiving approaches, we wanted to share some of the stories behind those words and celebrate the patients, families, and our Hospice of the Piedmont team.
What families remember
This fall, we’re launching Every Thank You Tells a Story, a new campaign built around the real words and experiences of patients and families who have received hospice care from our team.
Each thank you has a unique story, but so many of the feelings behind them are familiar: uncertainty about making that first call, relief when help arrives, gratitude for the time they were able to spend together, and the reassurance of knowing you don’t have to do this alone.
One family remembered the relief they felt when they saw their nurse arrive. Another shared how the kindness and dignity shown to their aunt made her “feel like a queen.” And many have told us they simply wish they had reached out sooner.
Those are the voices at the center of this campaign.
“Every thank you is really a reflection of trust. Families trust us to walk into their lives during an incredibly personal time, and our team has the privilege of being there for them. By sharing some of these stories, we hope other families recognize that support is available to them, too.”
Jenn Downs, VP of Business Strategy and Marketing
Our hope is that these stories encourage other families to reach out sooner, especially during a season when a little extra support can make a difference.
When a Loved One May Need More Support During the Holidays
The holidays can bring families closer together, sometimes for the first time in months. They can also make changes in someone we love easier to notice, or leave us wondering if they may need more help than before.
If that sounds familiar, you don’t need to know whether hospice is the right next step before reaching out.
Our Nine Reasons You Need Hospice This Holiday Season shares some of the ways hospice can help patients and families find more support during the holidays.

This Thanksgiving, we’re especially grateful for the families who have trusted us with their stories, and for the nurses, aides, social workers, chaplains, physicians, volunteers, and team members who give families a reason to say thank you in the first place.
Every thank you tells a story. We’re honored to be part of yours.
If the holidays have you thinking differently about the support someone you love may need, you don’t have to figure out the next step alone. Our team is here to answer your questions, talk through your concerns, and help you understand your options.
