Marta M. Keane

Marta Keane was the CEO of JABA from April 2013 until January 2025, when she retired. She came to JABA as COO in the Fall of 2012. Marta was involved in the creation of the Charlottesville Area Alliance, working toward an age-friendly community. She also helped convene the Central Virginia Advanced Directives Collaborative, with strong support from Hospice of the Piedmont and both hospital systems. She currently serves as the Chair of the Center for Non-profit Excellence and a member of the President’s University-Community Partnership Advisory Council.

In 2022, she was elected as President of the Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging, representing the 25 agencies across Virginia. She oversaw rehab programs for 30 years, and in that role, served as President of the Speech and Hearing Association of Virginia, founding President of the Communications Disorders Foundation of Virginia, Legislative Councilor, and then Chair of the Council of Professional Ethics for the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. She was honored as a Fellow for SHAV and ASHA. The majority of her career has been focused on helping seniors achieve the highest quality of life, in the place of their choice, including at the end of life.

Marta received her Bachelor’s in Psychology and Sociology, Master’s in Speech Language Pathology, and post-graduate studies in Audiology from the University of Virginia. She also attended The Executive Program at Darden in 2014.
