Honoring Our Veterans

At Hospice of the Piedmont, we are dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans.

We understand that veterans face unique challenges at the end of life, and we are committed to providing personalized care that meets their specific needs. At any given time, approximately 10% of our patients are veterans, and we are proud to have veterans on our staff who bring a deep understanding of military culture to the care we provide.

We Honor Veterans Program

As a proud Level Four Partner of the We Honor Veterans Program, we are committed to going above and beyond to meet the needs of those who have served. This national program focuses on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgment, ensuring that veterans receive the recognition and care they deserve in their final days. What We Offer

We recognize the unique experiences and needs of veterans. Our Veterans’ Services program provides our clinical personnel with specialized training to better understand and care for those who have served. This training equips our team to address veteran-specific issues and the distinct challenges faced by military families, ensuring the most compassionate and informed care possible.

  • Pinning Ceremonies

Our specially trained veteran volunteers coordinate with the hospice care team to provide meaningful pinning ceremonies for veterans. These ceremonies are designed to honor the veteran’s service and can be performed for both responsive and unresponsive patients, or even as part of a memorial service. During the ceremony, veterans receive a framed certificate featuring the emblem of their branch of service, a small flag, a flag pin, and a card signed by the hospice care team.

Pinning ceremonies provide a special time for families to come together, often learning new details about their loved one’s military service. It is a moment of connection and honor, deeply appreciated by both veterans and their families.

  • Vet-to-Vet Companionship

Our veteran volunteers offer companionship visits to veteran patients, creating a bond over shared military experiences. These visits allow veterans to feel understood by someone who truly knows the military culture. This companionship can also provide caregivers with a much-needed break, knowing their loved one is in good hands.

  • Veteran Resources Guide

Navigating the benefits available to veterans can be overwhelming. That’s why we offer a comprehensive Veteran Resources Guidebook to help veterans and their families understand the benefits they may be eligible for.
